In 2024, authorities\u2019 successful seizure of AED 8.7 billion worth of counterfeit goods highlighted the importance of authenticated retail for consumer protection. Gemaee addresses this by requiring a two-stage authentication for every item.<\/span><\/p>\n

First, Entrupy\u2019s AI-powered scanners analyze microscopic details to confirm an item is authentic. Then, high-value pieces, especially Herm\u00e8s, are sent to Bababebi for a second, independent verification. Every product is sold with both certificates upon request. Gemaee also provides a lifetime authenticity guarantee and a 48-hour return policy.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is particularly relevant as Gen Z and Millennial shoppers, who will make up 75% of luxury spending by 2025, are driving the resale market. In the UAE, 83% of young, wealthy individuals say they will spend more with brands that are socially and ethically responsible.<\/span><\/p>\n

Phygital: The New Standard for GCC Retail<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Gemaee store is part of the \u201cphygital\u201d trend in GCC retail, a sector expected to hit US$390 billion by 2028. The model mixes the real-world experience of a store with the convenience of a digital platform, which is what local consumers now expect.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside the 1500 sq feet square-foot Jumeirah store, customers can see a selection of over 250 items from brands like Chanel, Rolex, and Patek Philippe. Digital displays show each product\u2019s history and condition report, plus access to the full online inventory of over 1000 items (valued around 3,000,000 USD). Payment options from Tabby and Tamara are available both in the store and online.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Market Coming of Age<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Middle East\u2019s second-hand luxury market is growing at 11.6% a year, much faster than the primary luxury market. Gemaee has processed over 800 items since it was founded in 2023, and its revenue grew by 300% in the past year, mostly from sales of authenticated watches and handbags.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company plans to use the Jumeirah store as a model for two more locations in the GCC by 2028.<\/span><\/p>\n
